Shri Satish Jha (DIN-10299809) has assumed the charge of Chairman cum Managing Director, ECL w.e.f 19.12.2024. Prior to this he was working as Director (Technical/Engineering Services), CMPDIL and was also holding the Additional Charge of Director (Technical) P&P, CCL till 14.12.2024.
Shri Jha is a highly accomplished mining professional with over three decades of experience in large mechanized underground and opencast mining operations. He holds a B.E. (Mining) from Nagpur University, an M. Tech in Industrial Engineering & Management from ISM Dhanbad and a Certified Project Manager credential from I2P2M, and is currently pursuing Ph.D. in Mine Planning from IIT BHU. His qualifications also include a First-Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (DGMS) and rescue training from MRS, Dhanbad. Shri Jha's international exposure includes training in Clean Coal Technology in Japan (2004), presenting a paper on "Sustainable Development of Singrauli Coalfields vis-Ã -vis Mining Equipment Selection, Environment and Ecology Management" at Curtin University, Perth, Australia (2019) and as a speaker at the African Mining Indaba in South Africa (2024) on balancing energy security through coal.
Shri Jha has held leadership roles across CMPDIL, CCL, NCL, and SECL. At CMPDIL, he pioneered initiatives such as Enabling the use of PM Gatishakti portal in Coal Sector – National Master Plan, Enabled 5G Roll out and Use cases for Coal Industry -7th Indian Mobile Congress, Organized Hackathon (2023) on "R&D in Coal Sector". He also assisted in developing the administrative dashboard and up gradation of CMSMS portal and "Khanan Prahari" App. Apart from this he also introduced the system of "Quality" Audit of FMC Projects of different Subsidiaries. He also undertook Sand replenishment studies in the State of Rajasthan and aggressively led CMPDIL to undertake PMC for Solar Projects across CIL Subsidiaries.
At CCL, as Director (Technical/P&P), he secured Stage II Forest Clearance for the Kotre Basantpur (5 MTY) project and Karo OC, Kedla OC, Rajrappa OC and Stage I clearance for Magadh (20 MTY) and Chandragupta (15 MTY) projects. He was instrumental in obtaining EC for Chandragupta OC Mine. Also obtained EC for 4 Projects (addition of 21.75 MTY) along with finalizing the MDO tender for Sanghamitra (20 MTY).
At NCL, he led projects like successful rehabilitation of Nigahi Village in 2008–2010, planned and implemented barrier coal extraction between Nigahi and Amlohri mine, the first in CIL and was awarded by NCL Management for the same. He was Instrumental in executing MOU with IIT BHU and establishing Innovation cum incubation centre at IIT BHU. He was associated with Digital Transformation through 17 use cases in 4 NCL Projects as Nodal Officer. He was instrumental in physical possession of 36 Ha of land after a gap of 23 years which was a major hindrance to the development of the Dudhichua Project exhibiting his community outreach skills. Shri Jha also introduced integrated "In-Pit Mobile Crusher-cum-Conveying System" at Dudhichua. At NCL Amlohri Project, he enabled achievement of AAP target in 2021-22 and 2022-23 after a gap of three years through strategic planning introduced Rapid Loading System (RLS 4MTY capacity) at Amlohri Siding and was instrumental in Business Diversification- Under "Waste to Wealth" mission - installation and commissioning of "OB to m-Sand plant". Under his leadership as GM (Corporate Planning), NCL became a member of the elite "100Mty Club" with consistent 7% CAGR.
In SECL, Shri Jha successfully introduced Longwall mining at Kumda, Bishrampur Area, and earned the prestigious "SECL Samman" in 2003 for managing complex geological conditions safely.
Shri Jha's accolades include the "Best General Manager/HoD" award on Coal India Foundation Day (2019) and numerous recognitions for his community outreach efforts. With a track record of innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable practices, Shri Satish Jha continues to be a transformative leader in India's coal mining sector.
